Call 07404 022260What is AdBlue, and why does it fault?
AdBlue (also called DEF, Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is injected into the exhaust by the SCR system to cut NOx emissions — fitted to most diesels from 2015 onwards and topped up roughly every 6,000–9,000 miles. When something fails — a dosing pump, NOx sensor, injector or heater, or AdBlue that has crystallised in cold weather — the car throws a warning light, then a countdown, and eventually won’t restart. Common fault codes include P20EE, P204F, P20E8, P20E9 (injector), P20EA (pump), P20EB (heater) and U029D (Peugeot), seen on the Peugeot Boxer, VW Crafter, Ford Transit, Vauxhall, Mercedes and many more. We diagnose the exact cause first, then talk you through the right route: repair, delete or removal.

The road-legal route
If you want to keep the system working and stay road-legal and MOT-ready, we diagnose and repair the fault — NOx sensors, dosing components, crystallised AdBlue and more.
Best for everyday road cars and vans.
AdBlue delete & removal
For off-road, motorsport, agricultural or export vehicles, we offer AdBlue delete (software) and full system removal. These are not legal for UK road use.
How our AdBlue service works
A clear process from the moment you drop the vehicle at our Hanley workshop.
- Full diagnostic check. We read SCR and NOx fault data — codes such as P20EE, P204F and P20E8 — and confirm the warning behaviour and whether a countdown is active.
- Recommend the right route. We explain your options honestly: repair to stay road-legal, or delete/removal for off-road vehicles.
- Carry out the work. Repair of the faulty components, or an AdBlue delete and/or removal for off-road use, with your original ECU file backed up first.
- Clear codes & test. We clear the fault codes and confirm the vehicle starts, runs and behaves normally before you collect.

Three AdBlue routes — which is right for you?
Pick the path that matches your vehicle and how you use it.
AdBlue repair
Keeps the system working and your vehicle road-legal and MOT-ready. The right choice for everyday cars and vans — we fix NOx sensors, dosing faults and crystallised AdBlue.
AdBlue delete
A software-only solution that removes AdBlue and SCR logic from the ECU to stop warnings and countdowns. For off-road and motorsport use only — not road-legal.
AdBlue removal
Full removal of the AdBlue system hardware, for off-road, agricultural or export vehicles. Not legal for UK road use.

AdBlue solutions — common questions
Quick answers before you book.
What does an AdBlue warning light or system malfunction mean?
It means the SCR system that injects AdBlue has detected a fault — often a NOx sensor, dosing pump, injector or heater, or crystallised AdBlue. Left unattended it usually escalates to a countdown and then a no-start. Get it diagnosed early to keep your options open.
What is the difference between AdBlue repair, delete and removal?
Repair fixes the faulty components and keeps the system working and road-legal. Delete is a software-only solution that removes AdBlue/SCR logic from the ECU. Removal physically takes the system out. Delete and removal are for off-road use only; repair is the road-legal route we recommend for any road vehicle.
Is an AdBlue delete or removal legal in the UK?
No — AdBlue delete and removal are not legal for use on UK public roads. They remove factory emissions equipment, will fail an MOT and can carry fines and DVSA enforcement. They are intended for off-road, motorsport, agricultural or export vehicles only. For a road car, repair is the correct route — see our legal guide for the full detail.
Will an AdBlue repair pass my MOT?
Yes — because a repair keeps the AdBlue/SCR system working as intended, your vehicle stays road-legal and MOT-ready. Even a warning light on the dash can cause an MOT fail, so a proper repair is the safe route.
Can I just reset the AdBlue warning?
A reset or temporary remap can clear the codes for a while, but if the underlying fault remains the warning usually returns — and the system is only compliant while it is actually working. A proper repair is the lasting, road-legal fix.
My car won’t start because of AdBlue — can you help?
In most cases, yes. The no-start countdown is triggered by SCR and NOx logic. We diagnose the underlying fault and recommend the right fix to get you moving again — see our guide on what to do if your car won’t start due to AdBlue issues.
Which vehicles and fault codes do you cover?
We cover a wide range of diesel cars and vans — including the Peugeot Boxer, VW Crafter, Ford Transit, Vauxhall, Mercedes, BMW and Audi — and common codes such as P20EE, P204F, P20E8, P20E9, P20EA, P20EB and the Peugeot-specific U029D. Send us your make, model, year and the code you’re seeing.
How often does AdBlue need refilling?
Typically every 6,000–9,000 miles, though some vehicles with larger tanks go further. Your dashboard will warn you when it’s running low. Use good-quality AdBlue from a reputable supplier — cheap or contaminated fluid can damage the system.
Why does my AdBlue freeze in winter?
AdBlue freezes below around -11°C. Most vehicles have a heater to thaw it, but that heater can fail and trigger a fault. If it freezes, let the vehicle warm up naturally — never add hot water — and speak to us if a warning appears.
