Off-vehicle deep DPF cleaning · Hanley workshop

Off-Vehicle DPF Cleaning
Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire & Cheshire East

When a DPF is too heavily loaded with ash for on-vehicle cleaning, we remove it and machine-clean it off the vehicle — a full flush that clears soot and ash the in-situ method can’t reach, finished with a flow test to prove it’s restored. It’s the deepest clean available, and a fraction of the cost of a new DPF.

What is off-vehicle DPF cleaning?

Off-vehicle DPF cleaning is the most thorough way to restore a blocked diesel particulate filter. The DPF is removed from the vehicle and cleaned in a machine that flushes out both soot and the baked-in ash that regeneration and on-vehicle cleaning simply can’t remove. We finish with a flow test to confirm the filter is properly restored before it goes back on — far cheaper than a replacement DPF.

Deeper than on-vehicle

Clears soot and ash

On-vehicle cleaning shifts soot, but ash builds up over time and can only be removed off the vehicle. That is what an off-vehicle clean reaches.

Best for heavily loaded, high-mileage filters.

Flow-tested proof

We prove it’s restored

After cleaning we flow-test the filter so you can see it is genuinely restored, not just refitted and hoped for.

How off-vehicle DPF cleaning works

A thorough process at our Hanley workshop.

  • Diagnose & confirm ash load. We read soot and ash load and differential pressure to confirm an off-vehicle clean is the right call.
  • Remove the DPF. The filter is carefully removed from the vehicle ready for machine cleaning.
  • Machine flush & clean. A full flush clears the trapped soot and baked-in ash that in-situ cleaning cannot reach.
  • Flow test, refit & clear codes. We flow-test to confirm it is restored, refit the filter, clear the codes and road-test.
MOT-friendly by design. Because the original filter is cleaned and refitted rather than removed, your vehicle stays road-legal and MOT-ready. If your filter is only lightly sooted, an on-vehicle clean may be all you need.

On-vehicle vs off-vehicle — which do you need?

We match the method to how loaded your filter is.

On-vehicle cleaning

For soot-heavy but serviceable filters — specialist fluid and regeneration clear the soot without removing the DPF.

Off-vehicle deep clean

For heavily ash-loaded or high-mileage filters — removal and a machine flush reach what in-situ cleaning cannot.

Not sure?

Our diagnostic readings tell us which route is right, so you only pay for the level of clean your filter actually needs.

Off-vehicle DPF cleaning — common questions

Quick answers before you book.

What is the difference between on-vehicle and off-vehicle DPF cleaning?

On-vehicle cleaning uses fluid and regeneration to clear soot without removing the filter. Off-vehicle cleaning removes the DPF for a machine flush that also clears baked-in ash, finished with a flow test — the most thorough option for heavily loaded filters.

How much does off-vehicle DPF cleaning cost compared to replacement?

It costs a fraction of a replacement DPF, which can run to many hundreds or thousands of pounds. Your price depends on the vehicle and filter condition — we give you a clear, free quote up front.

Will it pass my MOT?

Yes — because we clean and refit the original filter rather than removing it, your vehicle stays road-legal and is far more likely to pass the MOT emissions and smoke checks.

How long does off-vehicle DPF cleaning take?

Many jobs are completed same-day, depending on the vehicle and how loaded the filter is. We will give you a realistic timeframe when you book.

Will the blockage come back after cleaning?

Not if the underlying cause is addressed. We check for the sensor, EGR or regeneration faults that cause repeat blockages so the filter stays clear.
