EGR Delete
Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire & Cheshire East

EGR warning light, limp mode, rough idle, or an EGR valve that keeps clogging and failing? At our Hanley workshop we carry out a permanent EGR delete — disabling the EGR function in the ECU and fitting a blanking plate — so soot stops recirculating and the recurring faults stop for good. Diesel cars, vans and commercials, with full diagnostics included.

What is an EGR delete?

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve feeds exhaust gas back into the intake to lower NOx. On UK diesels — especially short-trip vehicles — soot and oil mist bake into thick carbon that clogs the valve and intake, throwing codes like P0401 (flow insufficient), P0402 (flow excessive) and P0403, and dropping the car into limp mode. An EGR delete disables the EGR function in the ECU and fits a blanking plate, so exhaust soot no longer recirculates and the valve can't keep failing. It's the permanent answer when cleaning or a new valve just clogs up again.

What we do

ECU software + blanking plate

We read and back up your ECU file, apply the correct EGR delete map for your ECU type, then fit a blanking plate so no exhaust gas can pass. Codes are cleared and the vehicle is checked to confirm it runs without the EGR error returning.

Original file backed up before any changes are made.

Who it's for

Diesels that keep clogging up

Ford Transit, VW Crafter & Amarok, Mercedes Sprinter & C-Class, Vauxhall Vivaro, BMW, Audi, Land Rover, Mitsubishi L200 and more. If you've already cleaned or replaced the valve and it failed again, a delete breaks the cycle.

How the service works

A clear process from the moment you drop the vehicle at our Hanley workshop.

  • Diagnostic check. We read EGR-related fault data (P0401, P0402, P0403 and related codes) and confirm the valve and intake condition before any work begins.
  • Read & back up the ECU. Using professional tuning tools we read the ECU file safely and take a full backup first.
  • Apply the delete + fit blanking. The correct EGR delete is written for your ECU type and a blanking plate is fitted so exhaust gas can't recirculate.
  • Clear codes & test. We clear all stored codes and confirm the vehicle starts, idles and drives cleanly with no EGR fault returning.

Important — off-road use only. Removing or disabling the EGR system is not legal for use on UK public roads and will affect emissions compliance and your MOT. An EGR delete is intended for off-road, motorsport, agricultural, competition or export vehicles only. If you're unsure which option suits your situation, talk to us and we'll be straight with you about cleaning vs delete.

Signs of a failing EGR valve

If you recognise these, your EGR is likely carbon-clogged or sticking.

Warning light & codes

Engine management light with EGR codes — P0401, P0402, P0403, P0404 or P0405.

Limp mode & rough running

Power loss, hesitation, rough or lumpy idle, and the car dropping into limp mode under load.

Economy, smoke & repeat failures

Poor fuel economy, black smoke, and an EGR valve that clogs or fails again soon after cleaning or replacement.

Why drivers choose Pro Remapping

Practical reasons that matter when the EGR fault just won't stay fixed.

Stops the repeat failures

Cleaning and new valves clog up again on a soot-heavy diesel. A delete plus blanking removes the cause, not just the symptom.

Data, not guesswork

Every job starts with a full diagnostic scan so we apply the correct delete for your exact ECU type — first time.

Proven track record

EGR delete — common questions

Quick answers before you book.

Is an EGR delete legal in the UK?

No — removing or disabling the EGR system is not legal for use on UK public roads. It's part of the factory emissions equipment, so a delete affects emissions compliance and will fail an MOT. EGR delete is intended for off-road, motorsport, agricultural, competition or export vehicles only. We'll always be honest with you about whether cleaning or a delete is the right route.

Should I clean the EGR or delete it?

If the valve is only lightly fouled, cleaning or a repair can be the right first step — and we offer that. But on a soot-heavy diesel that's already been cleaned or had a new valve and clogged up again, a delete plus blanking is the permanent fix because it removes the cause. We'll advise based on the diagnostic readings.

Will it stop my P0401 / P0402 fault and limp mode?

In most cases, yes. P0401 (flow insufficient), P0402 (flow excessive) and related codes are triggered by a clogged or sticking EGR. Once the EGR function is removed in the ECU and the valve is blanked off, the fault condition no longer applies. We confirm the vehicle starts, idles and drives without the code returning before we hand it back.

Do you fit a blanking plate as well as the software?

Yes. A proper EGR delete is done in two parts — disabling the EGR in the ECU software so there are no error codes, and fitting a blanking plate so exhaust gas physically can't pass into the intake. Doing both is what makes the result reliable.

How long does it take and which vehicles do you cover?

Most EGR deletes are same-day, with timing depending on the vehicle and ECU type. We cover a wide range of diesel cars, vans and commercials — Ford, VW, Mercedes, Vauxhall, BMW, Audi, Land Rover, Mitsubishi and more. Send us your make, model and year and we'll confirm.
